SIMONE | BROOKLYN | FOUNDER OF STANTON + WILLIAMS STYLE THERAPY/BLOGGER

Cardigan:Alexander Wang|Top:Theory|Skirt:Alexander Wang|Sandals:Seychelles|Clutch:Vintage|Necklace:Jin Ju Kim

I've owned this long cardigan for a week and have already worn it a couple of times. While the Style Therapy philosophy is about efficient clothing, it's also about wearing pieces you love and that feel good on. There's no shame in repeating...as long as the rest of your wardrobe isn't neglected.

This evening in Brooklyn the temps were a little too cool for shorts and far too warm for a coat. The Style Therapy/SYS remedy for a transitional weather? Light layers.

If I'm going the black/navy/grey route I have to throw in the truest of pop colors {red} in order to avoid a funereal, Debbie Downer look.

In New York, April can mean dry and over 70° or wet and below 50°. Times like these call for layering, even if it means a jacket over a jacket. It beats that down coat that doubles as a sleeping bag.

When a jacket over a jacket is too much, there's always the cape. It's not the domain of Superman alone.

I haven't been into prints since my days as a sprout in the Miami Vice 80s and 90210 early 90s. Then Jil Sander and Helmut Lang worked their way into my head. Now I'm slowly integrating prints back into my wardrobe through scarves and tops; akin to sartorial baby steps.

When wearing statement jewelry, make it the focal point of visual interest. Keep the palette clean. However, sartorial cleanliness doesn't mean your outfit has to be on Ambien. Consider textures and neutral prints to tie everything together.

Clearly blue shoes are my go-to for a pop color. Remember, any volume on top should be counterbalanced on the bottom.

While I'm not a personal fan of too much color at once, I insist on a pop of it somewhere. Here I did it with sandals in a vibrant Yves Klein blue.

The fact that I love a subtle palette is not classified information. On the other hand, I like to look alive. Injecting metallics or textures can wake up any outfit from the dead.
